Violations of state air pollution rules have been reported throughout southeast New Mexico’s Permian Basin according to a database published by the state’s Environment Department detailing active and resolved cases.
As oil and gas markets continued to grow along with operations in the Permian Basin early this year, so too did efforts to mitigate the environmental impacts of the industry.
Methane emissions continued to rise in the Permian Basin this fall, and environmentalists used their own research on the matter to advocate for stricter federal air pollution controls on the oil and gas industry.
