The Canadian government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will buy, take over and build a controversial 600 mile pipeline that will carry Alberta tar sands oil to be shipped out through the sensitive marine waters shared by Washington and British Columbia.
The proposed carbon tax, long sought by Gov. Jay Inslee, has cleared two state Senate committees and faces a floor vote in the Senate. Washington would be the first state to direct a tax at the source of greenhouse gases.
