Thousands of Taylor Swift fans descending to the North Shore on Friday might have gotten a bit wet, as quick bursts of rain fell multiple times before clouds eventually gave way. But that rain has not been enough to bring Pittsburgh or Allegheny County out of its recent dry spell.
U.S. Steel will begin closing three of its 10 remaining coke batteries at its Clairton plant later this month. It is expected to cut emissions by 15 to 20 percent.
The Pennsylvania-blessed effort to develop a “blue hydrogen” hub in the region, which would use natural gas to make the new fuel, has secured encouragement from the U.S. Department of Energy, which is overseeing a fierce competition for $7 billion in hydrogen hub funding.
Students, faculty, staff and outside organizations are encouraged to develop “an integrated, impactful, durable and feasible solution to advance carbon neutrality with lasting benefits” to the Pitt community.
