Some of the world's largest food companies and grocers urged commodity suppliers including Archer-Daniels-Midland Co., Bunge Ltd., Cargill Inc. and Louis Dreyfus Co. to stop trading soybeans associated with deforestation in the Cerrado.
There is no one way to stop the fires (and the prospect of more), but a combination of foreign and local governments, business interests, investors, and nonprofit organizations could start to mitigate the problem.
