Government officials declared a provincial state of emergency as more than 100 wildfires burned across Alberta on Saturday, with dozens still “out of control.”
Two wildfires have ravaged nearly 80 square miles of forests, forcing 37,000 people to evacuate. The flames were fanned by a heat wave also feeding blazes in Greece, Portugal and Spain.
Storms brought 30 inches of rain to areas near Sydney recently, and some residents have seen their homes flooded for the third or fourth time in 16 months.
