Drillers snap up federal leases near Utah's wilderness monuments

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management on Tuesday auctioned off more than 51,000 acres (21,000 hectares) in southeastern Utah to oil and gas drillers, a sign of strong industry demand in a region conservationists have vowed to protect.
